Personal Productivity At Its Best--Twinhead 12D
Jan-2006

With so many notebook options available in the market today, at first i balked at having to review yet another one. Oh well, I guess I had to get it over and done with, so I unwrapped my latest 'toy in the office-it was going to be my baby for the next two weeks. The 12D came in a typical carry-it box (much to my consternation as i was afraid someone would carry it out of the office without me knowing) inclusive of plastic handle.

The insides were very securely packaged with flexi foam bits as well as the customary cardboard parts holding a/c adaptor, CDs and the other necessary paraphernalia needed to keep you up and on the go. If it wasn't for the missing Apple logo on the over I would have mistaken it for a porta-Max, white finish and all. Also-the weight. The Mac notebook is kind of heavy, and it's Twinhead twin (pardon the pun) is equally so, even if a tiny bit lighter.

Micro-powerhouse, ignore the weight
Amazingly enough, Twinhead had managed to pack this little huy full of the normall laptop features. It's only limitations apparently were the lack of a widescreen LCD display and a powerful GPU. In short, it makes perfect business sense to get one. By the way, I'm going to ignore the fact that it doesn't come with a floppy drive, since many ignore that item today and personally, i think it's just a deadweight on a laptop.

Standard laptop features include USB ports, a memory card reader, DVD drive a hookup port to an external display, as well as dual network support, both LAN as well as Wireless LAN. Oh, and also two audip jakcs on the front. It's missing a PS/2 connector for mouse as well, but just get a USB mouse that's commonly in use nowadays and you're all sets to go.

Sporting an Intel Pentium Mobile Dothan chip and 512MB of shared memory, it uses an Intel driven GPU. That's the integrated graphics that eats up a portion of your RAM. The same graphic card drives a 12.1" LCD screen at a maximum resolution of 1,024x768pixels. So here we have the bottom line. This machine is meant for productivity on the go. I wouldn't recommend it for either gamers or those who are avid movie fans, since it'll probably dissapoint you.

A nice feature is the inclusion of DVD writer drive, dual format that writes + format at 8x and -format at 4x. This makes for added strorage capabilities. But in a business machine, are you really going to have a copy or bun out that huge a volume of stuff?
